Datebk6 has been officially released and is no longer in beta. It can be downloaded from the Pimlico site. It contains many new features; for a full list, refer to the documentation, but here are some highlights:
- Todo Sorting
- Today View
- Alarm Manager
- <NoAlarms> tag in an event's note to prevent alarms going off during the event
- Support for the Location and Birthday fields
- Month View Text Display
- Customizable Context Menus for Appointments and Todos
- Adjust Date/Time in List View
- Urgency attribute on Todos
- Create new Appointments and todos in any view
- Automatic logging of completed Todos and Appointments
- Filter in the List View by up to four icons at once
- Scheduled saved views
- <NK> tag in an appointment with an Advance will cause the float for that appointment to NOT disappear if its not checked off by the actual date of the appointment. It will continue to float forward indicating how many days "overdue" it now is.
How to do things that used to work differently in Datebk5.
- To hide Completed or Undated Todo's
- This is now done using the Todo Sorting preferences panel. Select Preferences from the Options menu, then tap the More button at the bottom of the screen and select Todo Sorting from the drop down menu. Select Completed (or Undated) from the list on the right, and then tap on Hide in the small list on the left. Hit OK to return to your data, and the Todos should now be hidden. (This used to be done directly on the Todos preference panel.)
- To hide/display categories based on time of day
- Use the new scheduled saved views.
- To make TextPlus show its list correctly
- First uninstall and reinstall TextPlus. If that doesn't resolve the problem then use a tool like Filez to look into the saved_preferences and remove all entries related to Textplus (S200 and S201). This basically resets TextPlus to its installation status so you will need to re-enter the registration code. Then delete the Datebk6db preferences file. This will also wipe out your preferences and saved views so first make a note of how you set them up! UPDATE: it seems this issue occurs when launching DB6 with startup view = Today view. If you set DB6 to use Day view as startup view, this problem does not seem to appear. Last status: Latest version of TextPlus 5.8 solves this issue.
- Location field seems to automatically fill with text once you start entering characters
- A possible workaround is to delete the Location Index file: CalendarLocationsDB-PDat. Type is 'lcns' and creator is 'PDat'. When you next run Datebk6, it will create a new, clean location index file (the sole purpose of this file is to track location information and deleting it won't affect the assignment of any existing locations).
